The Muses Grove, by visual artist Glafira Taratynova, explores nature through the portrayal of botanical and animalistic scenes in watercolour painting, screen printing, and lino printing.
Glafira has a deep and enduring love for nature and its inhabitants. Growing up in an artist family surrounded by painting, sculpture, and ceramic art, she began creating from a young age by using various art techniques and painting botanical watercolours. Glafira decided to befriend animals from a young age by following a vegetarian diet (later vegan). This love for nature is strongly evident in her botanical and animal artwork, where plants and animals take centre stage.
As an observer, Glafira makes sketches in nature or studies books, later transforming her impressions into often large-scale watercolours. This technique, where pigments are suspended in water and applied in thin, transparent layers, originates in ancient civilizations and gained artistic recognition in 18th-century Europe, especially through landscape and botanical illustrations.
In her screen-printing studio in Landgraaf, Glafira skillfully transforms these watercolours into detailed and often monochrome serigraphs.
